The creation of system interfaces is a complex process which involves thorough understanding of the system architecture of the underlying sub-systems and their database design.
Our role as System integrators involve integrating of existing sub-systems to create a new system that have different characteristics and are able to function on their own. We achieve this by creating system interfaces that will bridge existing sub-systems, enabling them to communicate with each other.
Below are some of our projects where we've created system interfaces to satisfy our clients' needs:
"Automatic Data Retrieval and Calculation"
Situation:
A client has a Process Control System ("PCS") that requires calculated parameter input from an external system (MAPS). In one of the operation stages, the PCS system pauses to wait for the operator to gather data from an external system to manually calculate the required parameter and subsequently input into the system. Human errors and operator bottlenecks are commonly encountered with this manual process.
Solution:
We provided our client with a system which serves as an interface between their existing PCS system and MAPS. This interface system allows automatic data retrieval and calculation of the parameters required to proceed to the next operation stage without operator assistance.
Results:
This solution provided our client a significant improvement in efficiency by removing bottlenecks in their Process Control System. Human errors were eliminated and less resource allocation was required to operate the system translating to a greater cost savings by doing more with less. The productivity of the operators are also enhanced as they were reassigned for other functions.
"Power Monitoring Systems"
A client is required to send their power consumption data to the Singapore Energy Market Authority ("EMA") in almost "real-time" as part of their agreement. The client needs to ensure that there is no breakage in submission of required data as strict penalties are imposed for non-compliance. There are no off-the-shelf products available in the market that can meet their requirements.
Solution:
We provided a highly stable system interface that directly connects to the EMA Data Collection Server. This interface system allowed the transmission of their power consumption data in almost "real-time" as per requirement. Furthermore, data duplicates are sent to a second EMA Data Collection Server concurrently to reduce the possibility of data loss during transmission.
Results:
This solution provided our client a custom-made system to meet their requirements that no off-the-shelf product in the market could provide. The system is reliable and allowed our client strictest compliance to EMA requirements.
